Station building

A free Park & Ride parking garage is directly behind the train station

The listed station building was opened in 1858 by the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahngesellschaft and has been privately owned since 2004. In addition to a DB ticket office, there is a brewery and a fast food restaurant . There is a multi-storey car park next to the train station, which commuters use to park and ride .

Platforms

The station has a side platform and a central platform, via which the three platforms used for passenger transport can also be reached barrier-free with elevators. The no longer used platform four has no platform.

The new side platform on platform 1 has been in operation since January 2008

The side platform on track one was completed and put into operation in mid-January 2008 after around half a year of construction. The new platform on track 1 has an entry height of 96 centimeters, which enables barrier-free entry to the S 12. In 2004, as part of the modernization work on various stops of the S 12 for the use of the 423 series, the makeshift and replacement platform was built on track 1 at the former goods handling facility. This was dismantled shortly after the new platform opened. The central platform is 76 centimeters high, which is why wheelchair users cannot reach the S 12 here without assistance.

Bröltalbahn

From 1863 the Bröltalbahn ran from the station forecourt to Ruppichteroth , and after the network was expanded to Waldbröl , Asbach (Westerwald) and Bonn-Beuel .

A remnant of track in front of the station building with a memorial stone commemorates the first German narrow-gauge public transport railway .

Signal box

The signal box Hf ( H ennef (Sieg), F ahrdienstleiter) type Sp Dr S 60 was put into operation in 1980 and is not manned locally during regular operation. Like the identical signal box at Blankenberg station, it is remotely controlled by the identical signal box at Eitorf station .

Extension of the service

The S 13 has been continuing from Troisdorf to Hennef since December 15, 2013 during the morning rush hour. As a result, six additional trips are offered daily in this section, which should help relieve RE 9 and S 12. Since December 2014, the continuation has also taken place in the afternoon rush hour and the line has been renamed to S 19 for these trips. In December 2015 the line was then extended to Herchen and runs every hour from Monday to Friday.

future

The S 12 currently ends twice an hour in Hennef (Sieg), at times the 20-minute cycle to Eitorf was planned, but this failed on the single-track section between Merten and Blankenberg. (For the expansion plans, see victory route # planning .)
