history

View from Burgstrasse to the tower of St. Severin

After the Carolingian partitions in the Treaty of Verdun in 843, the Ruppichteroth peasantry belonged to the Auelgau . Within the later territorial structure, the Blankenberg office - to which Ruppichteroth belonged at that time - came to the county or duchy of Berg in the middle of the 15th century until 1806 . In the course of the French reorganization of the Rhineland, the office was dissolved and the area was divided into arrondissements. The office of Blankenberg fell to the Duchy of Cleve. Napoleon's brother-in-law Joachim Murat was installed as duke, and the duchy itself was raised to the status of a grand duchy shortly afterwards . In 1806 and 1808 the parish of Ruppichteroth was merged with the parish of Winterscheid to form the municipality of Ruppichteroth, which was subordinate to the canton of Eitorf . In 1808 Murat became King of Naples and the Grand Duchy was directly subordinate to Napoleon Bonaparte .

After the Wars of Liberation , the Rhineland, and thus Ruppichteroth, was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 due to the resolutions at the Congress of Vienna . In 1816, Ruppichteroth became the seat of the mayor's office of the same name , which was also administered by the independent municipality of Winterscheid. Also in 1816 the Prussians formed the Uckerath district , which was dissolved in 1820 and assigned to the Siegburg district .

In 1830 there were 3,848 inhabitants in the municipality of Ruppichteroth, the knights' seats Junkersaurenbach and Herrnstein Castle , three grain and oil mills each, a brickworks, three lime burner huts and an ironworks, two shops, two inns and 30 taverns. Of the 17,500 acres of land, only 33 acres of high forest were left, 5,000 acres of coppice forest and 4,000 acres of heather due to the high wood consumption for the huts. Agricultural land was 6,600 acres for crops, 120 acres for vegetable gardens and 22 acres for fruit growing. There were also 28 acres of ponds.

Ruppichteroth has always been shaped by agriculture and forestry. The industry only gained a foothold in the town late. From a company founded by the brothers Hugo and Otto Willach in 1889, two companies developed that are now world leaders in the field of locks and fittings.

Second World War

The Second World War claimed some lives. In addition to frontline soldiers from the community, local civilians, foreign workers , Allied and German military personnel were also killed on the community territory in the last years of the war . From April 7th to April 9th 1945 Ruppichteroth was captured by American soldiers. After the end of the war, Ruppichteroth belonged to the British zone of occupation .

coat of arms

Blazon : "Under a red shield head, which is set off by a wave-shaped dividing line and contains the words 'mons praeclare' in silver lowercase letters in broken script ( minuscule ), in a silver field a left-facing red crescent, between which a red eight-pointed cross ( Johanniterkreuz ) stands in such a way that the left and the vertical cross arms touch the crescent moon, underneath the two halves of a semicircular arranged torn black chain. "

"O you beautiful mountain" (mons praeclare) is the local legend of the Schönenberg, as the exclamation of the knight Dietrich von Bruell, who is said to have participated in a crusade with Emperor Friedrich I, after his return (cross for crusade on the Islamic crescent). The broken chains symbolize his return to prison.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Unlike in the past, the main traffic today does not go over the mountain ranges (for example the Roman road ), but through the Bröltal. Since 1862 the community was connected to the city of Hennef via the Bröltalbahn , a narrow-gauge railway, and from 1870 to the city of Waldbröl. The railway was primarily used to transport ore and lime, and later for people. It was previously operated as a horse-drawn railway. Then it was operated as the oldest narrow-gauge steam locomotive line. Today the main traffic connection is mainly via the B 478 , which cuts through the community and connects with the neighboring towns of Hennef and Waldbröl. At the municipality boundary, the B 507 branches off to Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. In addition, country roads lead to the neighboring communities of Windeck, Eitorf, Much and Nümbrecht, for example state road 312 .

On January 1, 2018, 8,120 motor vehicles were registered in the municipality, including 6,574 cars.

In Ruppichteroth, the tariff of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) applies to public transport .

education

There are three community elementary schools, a secondary school and a private high school in the municipality

  • Community Primary School Ruppichteroth (GGS Ruppichteroth)

The old company premises of the former largest employer Ruppichteroth, Huwil-Werke GmbH , was demolished by the Schoofs investor group in summer 2014. Parts of the shed roof of the company's old factory buildings were reused to build the new center. The stores Edeka , Fressnapf , KiK , Rossmann , Action and the discounter Lidl are represented in the new shopping center .
