Bölkum is a part of the municipality of Ruppichteroth .

geography

The hamlet is at an altitude of 240  m above sea level. NHN on the slopes of the Bergisches Land . Neighboring towns are Stranzenbach in the northeast, Hodgeroth in the southeast and Röttgen in the northeast.

history

According to the list of homages at the time, the families of Dieterich, Johannes Nefferdorf, Willem Muhrer, Arnold Schneider, Kerstgen Schmitt, Thiell Hoffgens, Johannes Muher, Hein Hoffgens, Willem Wenner, Willem Halffman and Arnoldt Schuster lived here in 1666 .

In 1809 Bölkum had 31 Catholic and 26 Lutheran residents. In addition, 16 Jewish citizens lived here (as of 1811).

In 1901 Bölkum had 94 inhabitants. Heads of the household were bricklayer Christian Fassbender, farmhand Gerhard Fassbender and bricklayer Joh. On November 4, 1896, after a year of construction, a Protestant school was inaugurated in Bölkum. In addition to Bölkum, the school district included Hodgeroth, Millerscheid and the Ruppichterother districts of Stranzenbach and Straße. In 1913 the school had 60 students. In 1920 the building was electrified, and in 1960 it was finally connected to the public drinking water supply. The Protestant elementary school was then closed on August 1, 1967 due to insufficient student numbers.

In 1953, a memorial was erected in the schoolyard for those who died in the school district during the two world wars.

The building is entered under number 49 in the list of architectural monuments in Ruppichteroth .
