Kuchem is a district of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Ruppichteroth in the Rhein-Sieg district in Germany .

location

Kuchem is on the Nutscheid . The state road 86 leads past Kuchem . The immediate neighbor is the hamlet of  Berg , further away are the neighboring villages of Rose and Hänscheid .

history

The place Kuchem was first mentioned in 1436. The spelling of the place name at that time was Cucheim , in 1515 the place was called Cochem . The ending "-hem" indicates an old settlement. The name Kuchem is either due to the location of the settlement on a mountain or it means "Kurt's village".

chapel

Lady Chapel

The Marienkapelle in Kuchem is said to date partly from the year 1254, provided that the interpretation of a date on one of the stones is correct. The western part was laid out in 1708 as an extension at the instigation of Pastor Heinrich Beer from Ruppichteroth. At that time, Johannes Pitter Weynant donated a bell. Since the chapel lies in a left curve after a long straight, motor vehicles often drove against the south wall in the past and damaged the chapel not insignificantly.

Residents

In 1809 the place had 31 Catholic residents.

For the beginning of the 20th century, four households are recorded in Kuchem, namely the landlord Jakob Quast, the peddler Bertram Hausmann, the farmer and merchant Franz Josef Stommel and the house painter Peter Walterscheid.
