Au (Sieg) is a small village in the municipality of Windeck in the Rhein-Sieg district , in southern North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located in the Oberbergisches Land directly on the Sieg in a loop of the river at an altitude of 138  m above sea level. NHN . The place Au is on the federal highway 256 and directly on the border with the federal state Rhineland-Palatinate . The towns of Hamm an der Sieg and Fürthen (both in Rhineland-Palatinate) can be reached quickly on foot.

Despite the comparatively small size of the place of about 0.25 km², it has gained national importance due to its large and technically important Au (Sieg) station of category 3 (see history).

history

The Auer Mühle has been in use since 1603 and was granted for a limited period by the Counts of Sayn .

In 1830 Au was not yet listed. In 1845 Au was named as a farm. It consisted of two houses with 19 residents, 13 Protestant and six Catholic.

The village belonged to the parish of Rosbach and at times to the mayor's office Dattenfeld .

In 1860 Au became a stop on the Siegtal route .

In 1863 there were 26 residents. In 1888 there were 16 residents in four houses.

In 1962 75 people lived here and in 1976 65 people.

Railway line

On August 1, 1860, the section of the victory route between Eitorf and Wissen was inaugurated. The regional trains from Cologne in the direction of Betzdorf and Siegen and the S-Bahn line S 12 from Horrem via Cologne-Ehrenfeld , which ends here, run on this route . On May 1, 1887, the branching Oberwesterwaldbahn to Altenkirchen (Westerwald) - Limburg an der Lahn was added, so that Au became a railway junction with extensive track systems. Since the modernization of the railway systems, which was completed at the end of 2013, the Au (Sieg) station has had six platform tracks in regular operation.
