Rieferath is a part of the municipality Windeck in the Rhein-Sieg district . It consists of Nieder- and Oberrieferath. Rieferath is one of the villages in the Herchener Höhe .

location

Rieferath lies at an altitude of 166  m to 222  m above sea level. NHN on the Nutscheid . Neighboring places are Lüttershausen and Ringenstellen . Oberrieferath is crossed by the state road 312 . Niederrieferath is located on the Rieferather Bach, which flows into the Ottersbach at Niederottersbach .

The place was first mentioned in 1483 as Ryffrode .

On February 22, 1944, a B-17 bomber of the US Air Force crashed near Niederrieferath . This had previously been massively shot at by German fighters. Four soldiers were killed in the crash and six more were able to save themselves by parachute.

Residents

In 1830 Niederrieferath had 87 residents, Oberrieferath 46.

In 1845 the two hamlets had 177 inhabitants, 97 Catholics and eighty Protestants. Ninety people lived in 17 houses in Niederrieferath and 87 in fifteen houses in Oberrieferath.

In 1888 Niederrieferath had 55 residents in 14 houses, Oberrieferath 60 residents in 18 houses.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the following households were recorded for Niederrieferath: Fielder Christian Becher, bricklayer Wilhelm Engelbert, farmhand widow Peter Fahnenmüller, farmhand Wilhelm Fahnenmüller, widow Josef Fennig, farmhand Gottfried Hillen, disabled Peter Ittenbach, farmhand Wilhelm Ittebach, farmhand Heinrich Krämer, auxiliary railroad attendant Peter Löhr, farmer widow Wilhelm Löhr, farmer August Müller, farmer Wilhelm Müller, farmer Gottfried Nohl, farmer widow Karl Ottersbach and cultivator August Schmidt.

For Oberrieferath the following were recorded: day laborer Peter Dohle, line worker Josef Görgen, field worker Jodokus Görgen, bricklayer Christian Henrichs, field worker widow Karl Henrichs, line worker Franz Nohl, invalid Christian Pohl, farm worker August Schumacher, farm worker Karl Seinsch and day laborer Michael Weyer. There are a total of 25 households, of which 22 are employed, of which 16 have their own farms.

Attractions

To the north of Oberrieferath, on Mucher Straße, there is a former forester's house that is listed as a historical monument. It was exhibited at the world exhibition in Chicago in 1893 and then rebuilt on the Herchener Höhe. The building is now used as a residential building. At the beginning of January 2012, filming for the German-Norwegian film “ Zwei Leben ” (director: Georg Maas) took place here and in the neighboring forest .
