Altwindeck (formerly Windeck ) is a district of the municipality Windeck in the Rhein-Sieg district in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Windeck or his castle gave the municipality its name as the Windeck office . Since there was constant confusion between the new (area) community and the small district of Windeck in the community merger that was formed in 1969, the community council decided to rename it to Altwindeck .

In addition to the castle ruins, the whole place with its old half-timbered houses and the museum village is worth seeing and excellent. In 1975 Altwindeck became district winner in the competition Our village should be more beautiful , as well as bronze winner in the state competition.

Museum village

Around the local history museum, which shows everyday objects from the 19th century, you can see renovated and newly erected half-timbered houses on everyday topics from this time and also from the Middle Ages. In addition to old living rooms, a bakery, a carpenter's workshop and a mill can be seen. The whole ensemble is surrounded by a cottage garden, small brook bridges and stone walls. Every year on October 3rd, the castle market takes place here, where medieval craftsmen demonstrate their craftsmanship. In addition to rope makers , potters and blacksmiths , the archers of the Windecker Bogengilde show their art.

chapel

The Lady Chapel of Our Lady dates from the 18th century. It is a plastered octagonal quarry stone building. The roof and ridge are slated. The chapel is lit by two windows that are framed with stone. The floor is made of greywacke , the ceiling is clad with oak. The Marienkapelle is a listed building.

The altar stone made of greywacke is decorated with a copy of the baroque sculpture Madonna von Windeck . The original is in the local museum nearby. Next to the altar is a 17th century alliance coat of arms of the von der Lippe families called Huhn and Efferen called Hall . Both the Madonna and the coat of arms probably come from the Broich House, which had previously been demolished .

A previous chapel was mentioned as early as 1323. The document guarantees that everyone who visits the church in Dattenfeld and the capella sacti Pauli primi heremite in Windecghe receives a fortnightly indulgence . It was therefore a chapel of St. Paul , the first hermit , located in Windeck. During the Thirty Years' War this chapel is no longer mentioned in the local church registers, despite detailed records.
