Halscheid is a district of the municipality of Windeck in the Rhein-Sieg district .

location

Halscheid lies on the slopes of the Bergisches Land on the border with the Altenkirchen district . Neighboring towns are Forst in the east, Opperzau in the south and Bellingen in the north. Halscheid can be reached via Landesstraße 333 .

history

Halscheid was first mentioned in 1580 as Scheid .

The village belonged to the parish of Rosbach and at times to the mayor's office Dattenfeld .

In 1830 Hallscheid had 85 inhabitants.

In 1845 the hamlet had 99 inhabitants in 19 houses, eight Catholic and 91 Protestant. In 1863 there were 138 people. In 1888 there were 164 residents in 34 houses.

250 people lived here in 1962 and 261 in 1976.

village life

There is a parish hall of the Protestant parish of Rosbach and a Buddhist cultural center in the village .

In the center of the village, next to the Protestant church, there is still the old school building from 1870. Up to 1966, 80 primary school students were taught by just one teacher here. This village school only had one large classroom; it was used as a "military hospital" during World War II. Wounded soldiers could receive makeshift treatment in the 6 × 10 meter classroom. Not only the nearby Nutscheid barracks, which was a very popular target of the Allies, caused a high number of wounded at the time.
