AACTA International Awards 2017
The 6th Australian AACTA International Awards , presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organization founded by the Australian Film Institute in August 2011 , took place on January 6, 2017 in Los Angeles instead. They honored the best films of 2016 outside Australia and are thus the counterpart to the regular AACTA Awards for Australian films, which took place on December 5th and 7th, 2016. The award ceremony was shown on the Australian cable broadcaster Arena on January 8, 2017 .
Overview
The nominations were announced on December 14, 2016. There are no changes compared to the award from last year. With six nominations, the drama Manchester by the Sea received the most mentions, followed by Hacksaw Ridge - The Decision , La La Land and Lion - The Long Way Home with five each. Arrival (3), Fences , Hell or High Water , Loving and Moonlight (2 each) also received several nominations .
La La Land , Lion and Manchester by the Sea each won two awards. The musical won best leading actress ( Emma Stone ) and was recognized for best film, Garth Davis ' drama was recognized for best supporting ( Dev Patel ) and best supporting actress ( Nicole Kidman ), while Kenneth Lonergan's drama won best leading actor ( Casey Affleck ) and best screenplay (Lonergan). The only remaining award went to Mel Gibson for directing the war film Hacksaw Ridge - The Decision .
