AACTA International Awards 2018

The 7th edition of the Australian AACTA International Awards , presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organization founded by the Australian Film Institute in August 2011 , took place on January 5, 2018 in Los Angeles instead. They honored the best films of 2017 outside Australia and are the counterpart to the regular AACTA Awards for Australian films, which took place on December 4th and 6th, 2017. The award ceremony was shown on January 7, 2018 on the Australian broadcaster Foxtel Arts .

Overview

The nominations were announced on December 12, 2017. There were no changes compared to the award from the previous year . With five nominations each, the film drama Call Me by Your Name and the two tragic comedies Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri received the most nominations, followed by Dunkirk with four. I, Tonya , Shape of Water (3 each), The Darkest Hour and Get Out (2 each) received several nominations .

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won three awards for Best Picture, Best Screenplay ( Martin McDonagh ) and Best Supporting Actor ( Sam Rockwell ). Craig Gillespie's biopic I, Tonya won best leading actress ( Margot Robbie ) and best supporting actress ( Allison Janney ). Christopher Nolan was honored as best director for his war film Dunkirk . The only remaining award went to Gary Oldman for Best Actor for portraying Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour .
