Martin McDonagh (born March 26, 1970 in Camberwell , London ) is an Irish playwright , film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

McDonagh is the son of Irish parents who emigrated to England. His older brother is the filmmaker John Michael McDonagh . Martin was best known as the author of two dramatic trilogies, but also as a radio play author. His plays have been performed in London and on Broadway , among others , and have been awarded various prizes.

In 2004, McDonagh made his film director debut with the short film Six Shooter . For this he received the Oscar in the category Best Short Film in 2006 . Two years later he directed his first feature film, the Bruges see ... and die? (in the original: In Bruges ) came to the cinemas. McDonagh also wrote the script for both works. See the Bruges script ... and die? earned him the British Academy Film Award in 2009 and an Oscar nomination for a feature film.

In 2012 an action comedy followed with 7 Psychos , in which Colin Farrell , Christopher Walken and Abbie Cornish can be seen. McDonagh was also responsible for the script here. His 2017 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, starring Frances McDormand as the mother of a murdered girl, was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won in two categories.
