Luca Guadagnino
Luca Guadagnino (born August 10, 1971 in Palermo ) is an Italian film director .
Life
Guadagnino, the son of an Algerian and an Italian, grew up in Ethiopia for a few years . He attended the University of La Sapienza in Rome and was a thesis on Jonathan Demme doctorate . After two short films, he made his feature film debut in 1999 with The Protagonists , which had its official premiere on September 10, 1999 at the Venice Festival . In 2002 he conducted an interview with Tilda Swinton at the Hotel Majestic in Cannes, based on his 35-minute short film Tilda Swinton. The Love Factory was born.
Guadagnino had his breakthrough in 2005 with the film adaptation of the novel With Closed Eyes by Melissa Panarello under the film title Melissa P. The following Io sono l'amore , again with Tilda Swinton, was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2009. In the same year he made his debut as an opera director with a production of the opera Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona .
A Bigger Splash from 2015 is a remake of The Swimming Pool from 1969. In May and June 2016, Guadagnino shot the novel Call Me by Your Name in northern Italy. The film received numerous nominations for film awards, including a total of four at the 2018 Academy Awards . Also in 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , whichawardsthe Oscars every year.
From October to December 2016, Guadagnino shot his remake of Dario Argentos Suspiria in Berlin under the same title , which premiered in Venice in 2018 .
