Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress and Oscar , Golden Globe and seven-time Emmy award winner.

Life and accomplishments

Janney was a student at a college performance at Kenyon College , directed by Paul Newman . She later studied at the New York Neighborhood Playhouse and the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art .

Her first film role played Janney on the side of Sandra Bullock in the comedy Youngsters - The Brooklyn Gang from 1989. Her role in the film drama Big Night (1996) by Campbell Scott and Stanley Tucci brought her a 1997 nomination for the Chlotrudis Award . In the adventure film Six Days, Seven Nights (1998), she played the role of Marjorie , the boss of Robin Monroe ( Anne Heche ).

Janney starred alongside Anthony LaPaglia on Broadway in Arthur Miller's play A View From the Bridge from 1997 to 1998 . She received a Drama League Award for her role and was nominated for a Tony Award .

In the drama American Beauty (1999), Janney appeared on the side of Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening . For her role, she won a Screen Actors Guild Award and the Online Film Critics Society Award with the Acting Ensemble in 2000 .

From 1999 to 2006, Janney played the role of White House Press Secretary C.J. in the television series The West Wing. Cregg . For this role she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 . In 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 she won an Emmy , for which she was also nominated in 2003 and 2006. It received a Golden Satellite Award in 2001 and a 2003 nomination for the same award. She received a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2001 and 2002; in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2000 she was nominated for the Television Critics Association Award and for the Viewers for Quality Television Award . In 2001 she was nominated for the TV Guide Awards and in 2002 for an AFI TV Award .

In the drama The Hours (2002) Janney starred on the side of Nicole Kidman , Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep . For her role she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and for the Phoenix Film Critics Society Award in 2003 with the cast . The role in the independent film Our Very Own from 2005 earned Janney a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award .

For her roles in Mom and Masters of Sex , she received an Emmy in 2014 for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series. In 2015 she was nominated again for an Emmy in both categories and won her seventh prize in the category for best supporting actress in a comedy series. The high point of her film career so far came with the film biography I, Tonya (2017). For her supporting role as the eccentric figure skating mother LaVona Golden, she received the Oscar and Golden Globe Award in 2018 .
