The 75th ceremony of the Golden Globe Awards ( english 75th Golden Globe Awards ) took place on January 7, 2018 Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills instead. The members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) honored what they consider to be the best American and foreign film and television productions as well as artists of the previous year, who are honored at a gala dinner. As host of the ceremony, in the United States live on NBC will air, was Seth Meyers selected.

With four awards each, Martin McDonagh's tragic comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri , received the most awards in the film category, while the mini-series Big Little Lies received the most awards in the television category . The German-French contribution Out of Nowhere by Fatih Akin was honored with the Golden Globe Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film .

The award ceremony was overshadowed by the Weinstein scandal . Many guests wore symbolic black as well as a pin from the “Time's Up” legal fund financed by Meryl Streep , Emma Stone , Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow , among others . A few celebrities appeared accompanied by activists, including Tarana Burke , who started the hashtag #MeToo . Many award winners recalled the topic in their speeches, including the honorary award winner Oprah Winfrey , who made combative comments on women's and civil rights. Moderator Seth Meyers processed the topic sarcastically.

The nominations were announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 11, 2017 by actors Alfre Woodard , Garrett Hedlund , Kristen Bell and Sharon Stone .

Guidelines

For the 2018 awards ceremony, films had to be at least 70 minutes long and shown in cinemas, on television or digitally via streaming for a fee for at least seven days between January 1 and December 31, 2017 in the greater Los Angeles area and made available to HFPA members have been made.

In the 2017 calendar year, television programs had to have been broadcast at prime time (Monday – Saturday 8–11 p.m., Sunday 7–11 p.m.), with series and multi-part series (two or more episodes) not being allowed to run below 150 minutes, or 70 minutes for television films .

For the “ Best Foreign Language Film ” category , the HFPA accepted 73 productions from 52 countries, including the main award winners at the Berlin Film Festival 2017 ( Body and Soul , Hungary) and the Cannes Film Festival 2017 ( The Square , Sweden). Also on the shortlist were the official Oscar entries 2018 from Germany ( From Nowhere ) , Finland (Tom of Finland) , France ( 120 BPM ) , Italy (A Ciambra) , Netherlands (Layla M.) , Austria ( Happy End ) , Poland (The Trail) , Russia ( Loveless ) , Switzerland ( The Divine Order ) , Spain (Summer 1993) and the Czech Republic (Ice Mother) . To qualify, the films must have been screened in their home country between October 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 and made available to HFPA members.
