Emilia Isabelle Euphemia Rose Clarke (born October 23, 1986 in London , England ) is a British actress best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the fantasy series Game of Thrones .

life and career

Clarke grew up in the Berkshire area . Her father was a theater sound engineer , her mother a businesswoman and her brother studied politics. Clarke's interest in acting began at the age of three after watching the musical Show Boat , which her father worked on. She attended from 2000 to 2005 in Oxford , the St. Edward's School , and from 2005 to 2007 Rye St Antony School before her studies at the Drama Center London graduated, from which she graduated in 2009.

She gained her first experience in two plays in St. Edwards , ten plays at the Drama Center London and in 2009 in a commercial for the aid organization Samaritans . She made her acting debut in 2009 in the role of Saskia Mayer in an episode of the soap opera Doctors and in 2010 as Savannah in Syfy's television film Triassic Attack .

The big breakthrough for the actress was the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO - fantasy series Game of Thrones , based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin based and aired 2011-2019. She was hired to replace British actress Tamzin Merchant , who was canceled for reasons unknown. Clarke won the 2011 EWwy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Daenerys. In addition, Clarke was nominated for the first time in 2013 for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and in 2014 for a People's Choice Award for Best Sci-Fi / Fantasy Actress .

In the science fiction film Terminator: Genisys , she took on the role of Sarah Connor. In 2016, Emilia Clarke starred alongside Sam Claflin , Jenna Coleman and Charles Dance in the film A Whole Half a Year . It is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jojo Moyes . In 2018 she played the female lead in the Star Wars anthology film Solo: A Star Wars Story . At the end of 2019, she starred as Kate in the film Last Christmas (film) .

From late 2018 to mid-2019, she was in a relationship with Charlie McDowell , the son of Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell .

In 2015 she was named " Sexiest Woman Alive " by the men's magazine Esquire . She lives in Hampstead , London , and Venice Beach , Los Angeles .

In 2018 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
