action

The film is about the 26-year-old Louisa Clark. When she loses her job, she is forced to take a job as a carer. She is supposed to take care of the wheelchair bound 35-year-old Will Traynor, who was hit by a motorcycle and has been paraplegic ever since. He is looked after by Nathan. When Louisa starts as a carer, Will treats her very rude and coldly at first. Over time, however, under Louisa's constant presence, Will becomes more and more communicative and open. Louisa finds out that Will tried to kill himself some time ago. Will's mother, Camilla, had refused his request for euthanasia at the time. After the suicide attempt, she promised to grant his wish, but only after a period of six months, since she would like to give him another chance to change his mind. Louisa is now doing everything possible to show Will in time that his life is worth living.

The two do more and more together. Louisa takes him to her birthday party and introduces him to her parents. Will feels more and more drawn to Louisa and goes with her to his ex-girlfriend Alicia's wedding. There he dances with Louisa and explains to her that she is now the only reason why he gets up in the morning. Louisa convinces Will to travel to Mauritius with her , where Louisa explains to Will that she loves him. Will is touched and tells Louisa that the time with her was very special for him. However, since he cannot bear to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he still wants to end his life. This hurts Louisa very much and she won't talk to him for the rest of the trip.

After her return, Louisa ends her job as a carer for Will, who now wants to take euthanasia in Switzerland. Will had told Louisa on vacation that he would like her there, but Louisa had refused because she couldn't stand it. After Will and his parents leave, Louisa changes her mind and travels after the Traynor family. Although she can no longer dissuade Will from his plan, she and his parents stay with him.

After his death, Louisa is in Paris at Will's request, where she reads a letter from the deceased. He has left Louisa a great inheritance with which she will reshape her life.
