Samantha Spiro

Samantha Spiro (born June 20, 1968 in Mill Hill , London ) is a British actress .

life and career

Samantha Spiro was born in the British capital, London , but grew up in Radlett . She is of the Jewish faith . She made her decision to become an actress at the age of 10 after seeing a production of Androcles and the Lion in Regent's Park , London . She subsequently joined the National Youth Theater before attending the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art .

After graduating, she first appeared in productions of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth . There is also the piece As You Like It on the side of Penelope Keith . In 2013 Spiro played at the Globe Theater alongside Billy Boyd and Joseph Millson in Macbeth again , this time in the female lead.

Since 1994 Spiro has also appeared in film and television productions. First she started as a guest actress a. a. in The Bill , Cold Feet and Coupling - Who with whom? . In 2003 she took on the recurring role of DI Vivien Friend in the television series MIT: Murder Investigation Team . From 2010 to 2012 Spiro played the role of Aunt Liz in the BBC production Grandma's House .

Her film appearances include a. Bedlem , From Hell and A Running Jump . In 2016, she took on the role of Melessa Tarly , mother of Samwell Tarly, in the sixth season of the successful fantasy series Game of Thrones . Since 2019 she can be seen as Maureen Groff in a supporting role in the series Sex Education .

Samantha Spiro is married and has two daughters.

Awards

In both 2001 and 2010, Spiro was awarded an Olivier Award for her portrayals in the play Merrily We Roll Along , and Hello, Dolly! excellent.

In 2004 she won a Joseph Jefferson Award for her performance in A Little Night Music at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater .
