Charles Dance OBE (born October 10, 1946 in Redditch , England ) is a British actor and director .
Life
Charles Dance is the son of a cook and an engineer. He studied graphic design at Plymouth College of Art before turning to acting. He has been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company since the mid-1970s and made a name for himself as a stage actor. This has taken him to the theater stage in a variety of plays in various UK cities such as London , Stratford-upon-Avon and Newcastle upon Tyne .
He is known to cinema audiences from supporting roles in numerous films, including from In Search of the Golden Child with Eddie Murphy , Alien 3 with Sigourney Weaver , Last Action Hero with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ali G in da House with Sacha Baron Cohen alias “Ali G". He also appeared in many television series that are more known to the British and US audiences, including a. in The Jewel of the Crown (based on The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott ). From 2011 to 2015 he played the role of Lord Tywin Lannister in the television series Game of Thrones .
In the video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , released on May 19, 2015, he lends his voice to the character Emhyr var Emreis .
Lately he's been dubbed mostly by Leon Rainer .
Personal
Dance was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as an officer on June 17, 2006 .
From 1970 to 2004 he was married to Joanna Haythorn. From this marriage he has a son (* 1976) and a daughter (* 1984). Dance fathered a daughter again in 2012. His daughter's mother is his fiancée Eleanor Boorman.
Dance currently lives in Devon, England .
