occupation

Lawyers can not kiss ( What Rats Will not Do ) is a British film comedy from the year 1998 . Directed by Alastair Reid and written by Steve Coombes , William Osborne and Dave Robinson .

action

Lawyers Kate Beckenham and Jack Sullivan practice in London. Beckenham is seen as ambitious, while Sullivan has no set goal, but still wins all the lawsuits. Sullivan spends the night with Kate's sister, Ellen. The next morning he can't remember anything, reads the name of his chance acquaintance on her identity papers and speaks to Kate, who lives with Ellen, as Ellen in the kitchen . Beckenham has since had a bad opinion of her colleague, which gets worse when he takes on her on a fraud case and has the trial adjourned.

Beckenham is hired to represent Gerald Burton junior, who was passed over in his late father's will and wants to get the inheritance through legal channels. Sullivan represents Mirella Burton, the beneficiary in the will. In court, there are heated arguments between Beckenham and Sullivan. They escalate after Beckenham's notes are stolen by Sullivan. The judge describes the disputes as that of an old couple . The case was reported in the media, whereupon Beckenham's fiancé Graham ended the relationship. He tells Kate she needs Jack more.

Beckenham and Sullivan spend more time together. The lawyer has doubts about the motivation of her client. She hands her colleague love letters proving that the deceased really loved the heiress. Burton Junior asks Beckenham if there is anything she can do about it. She answers with a Latin legal maxim , which the subtitle loses as idiots repeats. Sullivan wins the case and reveals to Beckenham that he loves her; they kiss and become a couple. Ellen starts dating Graham.
