Elisabeth Singleton Moss (born July 24, 1982 in Los Angeles ) is an American actress who is best known for her roles in The West Wing and Mad Men .

biography

Moss is the daughter of the British musician Ron Moss and an American blues musician. Moss was inspired to act at a young age by the actress Bette Davis . She also pursued ballet from the age of five , later attended the renowned School of American Ballet in New York and studied with Suzanne Farrell at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts .

From the early 1990s, Moss began appearing in US film and television productions. She became known to a wide audience primarily through her television work. Between 1999 and 2006, Moss took on the role of President's daughter Zoey Bartlet in 25 episodes of the award-winning series The West Wing . For the role of a rebellious and pregnant teenager in Deborah Kampmeier's independent film Virgin (2003) Moss received a 2004 nomination for the Independent Spirit Award . In 2002 Moss made her stage debut with the title role in Richard Nelson's Franny's Way .

From 2007 to 2015, Moss was part of the regular cast of the 1960s series Mad Men . The part of Peggy Olson , who rises from naive secretary to ad copywriter in an advertising agency , earned her six Emmy and one Golden Globe nominations as well as two Screen Actors Guild Awards (together with the acting ensemble around Jon Hamm and January Jones ).

2017 Moss was on the side of Claes Bang in Ruben Östlund Satire The Square to see that during the 70th Cannes Film Festival , the Palme d'Or was awarded. In the same year she received two Emmys and another Golden Globe Award as executive producer and leading actress in the series The Handmaid's Tale .

Moss married in October 2009, the Saturday Night Live - Actor Fred Armisen , the marriage lasted only eight months. Elisabeth Moss grew up a member of Scientology .
