Ansel Elgort (born March 14, 1994 in New York City ) is an American actor and singer .

life and career

Ansel Elgort was born in 1994 as the third child of fashion photographer Arthur Elgort and opera director Grethe Barrett Holby . He has an older brother and an older sister.

When he was nine, his mother Elgort enrolled in the School of American Ballet . He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Stagedoor Manor Summer Camp. In high school he starred in the theater production Guys and Dolls . He has been taking acting lessons since he was 12.

He made his debut in 2013 as Tommy Ross in the horror film Carrie , which is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name . The following year he starred twice alongside Shailene Woodley . In March 2014 he took on the role of the brother of Woodley's character Tris in the science fiction film The Determination - Divergent as Caleb Prior. The film is based on the bestseller The Determination by Veronica Roth . In the film of the same name of John Green's drama The Fate is a Lousy Traitor , which came to theaters in June 2014, he played the main male role of Augustus Waters.

In 2015 he appeared again in his role as Caleb Prior in The Determination - Insurgent , the sequel to The Determination - Divergent . In the summer of 2015 he had a cameo in the film Margo's footsteps , based on the novel of the same name ( Margo's footsteps ) by John Green.

Sexual abuse allegation

On June 19, 2020, the user "Gabby" published on the short message service Twitter the allegation that Elgort had sexually abused her in 2014. The user was 17 years old at the alleged time of the crime and came into contact with Elgort after contacting him via a social media platform. Elgort is said to have arranged to have sex with her. During intercourse, Gabby reportedly asked Elgort to stop, which he didn't do. Elgort denied the allegations. He testified that he had a “short, legal and mutual relationship” with “Gabby” and that the event she described never took place. He admits that when he broke up with "Gabby" he behaved wrongly towards her by not reacting to her attempts to contact her. “Gabby” has now deleted her user account on Twitter.
