action

Quentin, called “Q”, and Margo were close friends as children. In their teens , they both attend the same high school but become estranged from each other. One night, Margo visits Quentin and persuades him to join her on her vengeance campaign against her ex-boyfriend.

When Margo disappears the next morning, Quentin and his friends Ben and Radar as well as Margo's best friend Lacey Pemberton go to look for her. In their research they follow several traces that Margo left in their hometown. In a wiki , they finally find a hint that Margo could be in a deserted place north of New York City . They leave under time pressure so as not to miss the school prom, to find her there. When the young people don't meet Margo, the friends leave again, only Quentin remains behind and finally meets Margo. He confesses his love for her, but she rejects him and explains why she left home. After one last kiss, Quentin finally travels back alone.

Differences from the book

The film adaptation differs in some details from the novel:

The others go to a party instead of the school ball, which is only at the end in the film. It wasn't he who discovered the hint in the wiki, but Lacey. In the end, Quentin and Margo are no longer in contact. The break-in into Sealife is also completely missing in the film.

Soundtrack

The following pieces of music were used in the film:

criticism

The film service judged that the film adaptation of the novel told "routinely, albeit often a bit unimaginatively, of a tricky childhood love as a story of disillusionment". The characters would "never reach the depth of the characters in the novel". From the German Film and Media Review was Paper Towns with the predicate particularly valuable provided. The reasoning states: “Jake Schreier's adaptation of the novel by John Green is a successful variation on the 'Coming of Age' genre. The search for the youthful protagonists' own identity is skilfully combined with the dramaturgical element of the search. "
