The Mountain Goats ( Engl. The mountain goats ) is an American band that in 1991 in Claremont, California as a project of singer-songwriter John Darnielle was founded.
Band history
The then college student Darnielle first released an album under the name The Mountain Goats in 1991 , Taboo VI: The Homecoming , which was released on the small label Shrimper Records based in Upland (California) . In the years that followed, various other works were released on small labels, mostly including bassist Rachel Ware, who accompanied Darnielle at concerts until 1995. Later this job was taken over by Peter Hughes, who is now an official member of the Mountain Goats. From 2002 to 2010, the band's albums were released by 4AD . With Get Lonely , released in 2006, the Montain Goats placed in the US album charts. In 2011 the album All Eternals Deck was released on Merge Records .
John Darnielle was one of the guests on Aesop Rock's 2007 album None Shall Pass .

Meanwhile, a large number of singles, some EPs and three compilation albums have been released. Some of the early albums, originally only available on cassette, were reissued in the early 21st century in the formats that were current at the time.
