Justice Elio Smith (born August 9, 1995 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor . He was best known for the role of Ezekiel Figuero in the Netflix series The Get Down .

life and career

Smith was born in Los Angeles, California in 1995 to an African-American father and mother of Italian and French-Canadian descent. He has eight siblings. Smith graduated from the Orange County School of the Arts in 2013 and has appeared in a few theater shows around Orange County .

In 2014, Smith appeared in Nickelodeon's superhero comedy series The Thundermans , starring Angus in two episodes. He also appeared on the HBO documentary series Masterclass and Vlogbrothers . In 2015, Smith had a supporting role as Marcus "Radar" Lincoln in Margo's footsteps .

In 2016, Smith had his breakthrough starring Ezekiel Figuero in the Netflix musical drama series The Get Down . The series ran from August 2016 to April 2017 and was canceled shortly thereafter. In 2017, Smith was listed on Forbes magazine's 30-under-30 list .

Smith also appeared in New York alongside Lucas Hedges in the off-Broadway stage production of Yen by playwright Anna Jordan . The production ran from January 2017 at the Lucille Lortel Theater and ended on March 4, 2017.

In February 2018, Smith played Justin , friend of the main character Rhiannon, in Ultimately we don't care about the universe . A few months later, in June 2018, he played a leading role in the science fiction film Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom . For this role he received a nomination for the Golden Raspberry as a poor supporting actor . For the sequel planned for 2021, he will play the same role again.

In 2019, Smith played the lead role in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu , a live-action film based on the video game of the same name . In September 2019 it was announced that Smith starred in the new HBO-Max series generation will play by Lena Dunham to be produced.

His film All the Damned Perfect Days will be released in February 2020 , where he plays the male lead alongside Elle Fanning .

Smith's current German voice actor is Marco Eßer .

Personal

As part of a protest over George Floyd's death in early June 2020, Smith came out as queer and showed photos with his partner, actor Nicholas L. Ashe.
