Vlogbrothers is a YouTube channel founded by Hank and John Green in 2007 , on which they have regularly published video blogs ("Vlogs") ever since . Originally launched under the title "Brotherhood 2.0", the channel is the starting point for the brothers' successful media career. In March 2013, the channel passed the one million subscriber mark who refer to themselves as nerdfighters .

The offshoots of the channel include the VidCon conference , the DFTBA Records label , the edutainment channels CrashCourse , SciShow and Mental Floss, and the Pemberley Digital studio , which produced the Emmy- winning online video series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries .

At the end of 2006, John Green - inspired by Ze Frank's the show with ze frank - suggested to his brother that he should communicate exclusively through daily video blogs published on YouTube for a year. Until then, they had been in contact mainly through instant messaging and, in retrospect, describe their relationship as distant. According to her own statement, her goal was to build up a small community in order to carry out joint projects.

On July 18, 2007, Hank Green released the music video "Accio Deathly Hallows " in anticipation of the seventh book in the Harry Potter series. This video was featured on the YouTube homepage and viewed over a million times. This increased the number of subscribers, and many of the Harry Potter fans who were very active online became aware of the brothers. The release of the video is therefore considered a breakthrough for the Greens.

On December 31st, they announced that they would continue the project.

Continuation and growth

In August 2008, the first real-life meeting of the nerdfighter community took place in the winter garden of the Harold Washington Library Center in Chicago . The Greens had been invited into town by Alphabet , YouTube's parent company, to give a talk about their project for the company's employees. In retrospect, the brothers rate the meeting as a crucial point for their project. Hank Green was able to sell his music for the first time, which gave the impetus for the later founding of the DFTBA Records label .
