reception

John Green's books often received euphoric reviews. Tobias Rüther, for example, made the comparison in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in 2011 : “The American writer John Green writes great books for young people. It is for teens what Philip Roth for men and John Updike is for married couples -. He reads the world from them from " Hartmut El Kurdi takes Green in the time against accusations in protecting his" stories are too contrived, with a lot of calculus books with gaudy topics would be written here for a specific target group. "Green's success is not only due to his craftsmanship:" If you didn't feel a great love for your youthful heroes and deep compassion for them in every scene, in every dialogue, then he would not be able to make us laugh, cry and think alternately. And that's exactly what he does. What more can one ask of a novel? ”Despite the importance of Green's work in popular reception, it has received little attention in academic studies:“ Neither literary studies nor literary didactics in German or English-speaking countries has dealt with him intensively to date . ” The Fault in Our Stars is an exception , as Inger Lison points out:“ In the context of research on disease narratives and the motivation of diseases in the field of children's and young people's literature, numerous current articles and publications on Green's novel can be found. ”
