At the center of the series is student Miles “Pudge” Halter, who has recently moved from Orlando, Florida to Alabama to the Culver Creek Academy boarding school . A short time later, he falls in love with Alaska Young, who is, however, in a relationship with the wealthy student Jake. In addition, since Miles' roommate Chip does not get along well with the group of wealthy students, Miles gets caught between the cliques at the school.
