Angela K. Turner

Angela Kathleen Turner (born December 25, 1954 in London ) is a British ornithologist at the University of Nottingham . Her main interest is the swallows .

Life

Turner studied from 1973 at the Royal Holloway College in London, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in zoology and botany in 1976 . In 1981, she was with the dissertation The Use of Time and Energy by aerial feeding birds at the University of Stirling for Ph.D. PhD in ornithology . For this purpose, she studied the feeding behavior of barn swallows and sand martins in central Scotland between 1977 and 1980 . From 1981 to 1982 she completed her post-doctoral phase in Venezuela and Malaysia , where she did research on the behavior and ecology of swallows and swifts . Since 1986, Turner has been the editor-in-chief of Animal Behavior magazine, the Association for the Study of Animal Behavior . She has written specialist articles for the journals Bird Study , Ibis , Animal Behavior and Journal of Animal Ecology as well as popular scientific articles for BBC Wildlife , Birds , British Birds and The Guardian . In addition to several books of his own, including A Handbook to the Swallows and Martins of the World from 1989, Turner wrote chapters or sections on swallows in The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Birds (1990) by Christopher M. Perrins , The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Ornithology (1991) by Michael Brooke and Tim Birkhead and in the ninth volume of the Handbook of the Birds of the World (2004).
