Joshua Sidney "Josh" Boone (born April 5, 1979 in Virginia Beach , Virginia ) is an American screenwriter and film director . He gained notoriety through his multi-award-winning film The Fate is a Disgusting Traitor .

Life

Boone was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the second son of Michael Patrick Boone and Alexandra Boone. The family moved to Boston at the age of five and returned to Virginia Beach three years later. From the age of 8 to 18, Boone grew up in Virginia Beach. He attended Frank W. Cox High School until 1997, where he wrote for the school newspaper. He then studied theater at Ohio University . After graduating, he lived in Canada for three years , where he directed several amateur and B-movies .

Career

Boone brought his first full-length feature film to the screen in 2012 with the drama Love Stories . He not only directed this, but also wrote the script. The film celebrated its international premiere under the working title "Writers" in September 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival . The official release began in July 2013 in selected US theaters. That same year, he was hired by 20th Century Fox to direct the drama Fate Is A Lousy Traitor , based on the John Green novel of the same name . The film was released in US theaters on June 6, 2014 and became one of the most commercially successful films of the year. With production costs of around $ 12 million, it grossed more than $ 307 million worldwide. Boone received mostly positive reviews from film critics and his film has received multiple awards.

In late 2013, Boone announced that he was involved in a film project based on Stephen King's novel Love . The project stalled because Boone was hired by Warner Bros. to film Stephen King's book The Stand on February 25, 2014 .

On May 13, 2015, it was announced that Boone would take over the direction of a planned comic adaptation of The New Mutants by 20th Century Fox and write the script together with his co-writer Knate Gwaltney. The New Mutants is a spin-off of the X-Men film series . Commenting on Boone's engagement, Simon Kinberg , producer and writer of numerous X-Men films, said: “We look forward to exploring this part of the 'X-Men' universe with Josh that is more than suitable for making a story like that young people to tell ”. On October 2, 2015, Boone announced the completion of the first script version of the film.
