The New Mutants is an American science fiction - action film of Josh Boone , who on the X-Men comics of Marvel - publisher based. It is the thirteenth and final film in the X-Men series . After numerous postponements, the film was released in US cinemas on August 28, 2020 and is scheduled to hit German cinemas on September 10, 2020.

The first mutants to graduate from Professor Charles Xavier's school form a team. They are being held against their will in a secret research facility and have yet to familiarize themselves with their extraordinary powers in order to escape from there.

Staff and origination
On May 13, 2015, 20th Century Fox announced that Josh Boone would direct and co- write the screenplay with Knate Gwaltney , while Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner would once again be in charge of production. Kinberg stated that he wanted to faithfully implement the comic book template. In August 2016, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webb , with whom Boone had already worked on the film Fate is a lousy traitor , were hired to revise the script. In the spring of 2016, Boone announced which characters from the X-Men universe should appear in his film, including Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball and Sunspot. In May 2017, Boone announced that X-Men: The New Mutants would (also) be a horror film that does not include costumes or supervillains.
Cast and filming
After it was announced in May 2017 that Rosario Dawson would be on the cast list of the film, it was announced in June 2017 that Dawson had been replaced by the Brazilian actress Alice Braga , who played the role of Dr. Cecilia Reyes takes over. Maisie Williams played Wolfsbane and Anya Taylor-Joy played Magik. Henry Zaga plays Roberto da Costa in the movie called Sunspot.
Filming began in Boston on July 11, 2017 and continued in Montreal . In mid-September 2017, Josh Boone announced that filming had ended.
Film music and publication
Originally, Nate Walcott and Mike Mogis were supposed to compose the film music. Ultimately, Mark Snow did this job. The soundtrack album with a total of 30 pieces of music will be released as download on August 28, 2020 by Hollywood Records.
20th Century Fox released a first trailer on October 13, 2017. The film should originally have been in German cinemas on April 12, 2018, and in US cinemas the following day. On January 11, 2018, it was announced that the US theatrical release was postponed to February 22, 2019. On March 26, 2018 it was announced that the theatrical release had been postponed by almost six months, to August 2, 2019. When The Walt Disney Company announced their 2020 release schedule on May 7, 2019, the film was scheduled there on April 3, 2020. The cinema release in Germany should take place on April 16, 2020. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus , the film was postponed again and is now set to hit US cinemas on August 28, 2020. It will be released in German cinemas on September 10, 2020.

Age rating
In the US, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPAA . In Germany, the film was approved by the FSK for people aged 16 and over.
Reviews
The critics' judgment was just as negative as the direct predecessor X-Men: Dark Phoenix . So far, only 21 percent of the critics recorded by Rotten Tomatoes have rated the film positively.
