Charlie Heaton (born February 6, 1994 in Leeds , East Riding of Yorkshire ) is a British actor .

Life and career

Charlie Heaton is from Bridlington , on the Yorkshire coast. At the age of 16 he moved to live with his father in London . There he became the drummer of the rock band Comanechi , worked on their second album and went on a world tour with them.

After that he started working as an actor. During his first engagement he played in a commercial for the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund . He made his television debut in the 2015 Inspector Banks double episode What Will Survive . This was followed by appearances in a short film and in the series Vera - A very special case and Casualty . He had his first screen roles in the films Urban & the Shed Crew , Return of the Footsoldier and As You Are .

In July 2016, the mystery series Stranger Things was published on Netflix . Charlie Heaton plays a leading role in the shy teenager Jonathan Byers, who is looking for his missing brother. The series caught on with critics, became a hit for Netflix, and Heaton was signed for a second season. In 2017, he and his fellow actors received the Screen Actors Guild Award for best ensemble in a drama series .

Later in 2016 the film Shut In was released , in which Heaton starred opposite Naomi Watts .
