Vera - A very special case (Original title: Vera ) is a British crime series based on novels by Ann Cleeves . It has been broadcast on the British TV channel ITV since 2011 . In Germany, the German-language first broadcast of the series was broadcast on ZDFneo from 2014 to 2018 . In June 2019, Sat.1 Gold took over the German-language premiere from the eighth season. The title-giving main role of Vera Stanhope is played by Brenda Blethyn .

action

The plot of the series revolves around the private and professional life of Vera Stanhope, who works as a Detective Chief Inspector (DCI), that is, as chief inspector , in the fictional Northern England Northumberland & City Police murder cases. She is an impulsive, single woman who sometimes drinks alcohol. She is assisted by the young Sergeant Joe Ashworth and other members of the Northumbrian criminal police.

Production and broadcast

Vera is a series from ITV Studios. By winter 2016, the series had broadcast 24 one and a half hour episodes in six seasons in the home country, with viewers in some cases over 6 million. In Germany, the first season was shown in spring 2014; the second and third ran in the summer of 2015. After the success of the ninth season, the production of a tenth season was confirmed in March 2019. The season, which began shooting in April of that year, aired in 2020.

So far, nine seasons are available in the original English on DVD. In Germany, all nine seasons broadcast have been released on DVD.
