Forbes 30 Under 30 (German '30 unter 30 ') comprises a series of annual lists published by Forbes magazine and some of its regional branches. The list from 2016 included 600 people from business and industry. 30 winners were awarded in each of the 20 categories. There are ten categories in the lists for Asia and Europe, whereas there is only one 30-person list for Africa. Forbes holds conferences on the topic of 30 Under 30 and there is also a section on the magazine's website dedicated to the award-winning people.

history

Forbes published the first 30 Under 30 list in 2011. By 2016, the number of nominees had grown to over 15,000. The Forbes jury will select 30 winners from all applicants for each of the 20 categories.

Over time, Forbes has published more lists for Asia, Europe (since 2016) and Africa.

In addition, Forbes operates a separate section for the 30 Under 30s on the magazine's website and provides an app. The Washington Post reported that the channel aims to provide " millennial-focused programming to the magazine's many influential consumers ". The app is operated in cooperation with Tinder . Sean Rad, co-founder and CEO of Tinder, was also one of the winners on one of the 30 Under 30 lists.

Summits

In addition to the publications in Forbes Magazine, Forbes organizes the 30 Under 30 Summit every year. The Summit took place in Philadelphia in 2014 and 2015 . Monica Lewinsky made headlines when she used the event as a platform to draw attention to so-called cyber bullying . In 2016 and 2017, the summit was held in Boston in October . The organizers invited former 30 Under 30 winners.

The first international 30 Under 30 Summit, with a focus on Europe , the Middle East and Africa , took place in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in 2016 . The list of speakers included Monica Lewinsky, Shimon Peres and Okieriete Onaodowan. Onaodowan was honored on the 30 Under 30 Hollywood & Entertainment List, which he was a member of for his portrayal of Hercules Mulligan and James Madison in Hamilton .

Excellent people

Forbes' 30 Under 30 awards went to actors Alia Bhatt , John Boyega , Daisy Ridley , Emma Watson and Margot Robbie ; YouTuber Lilly Singh ; musicians A $ AP Rocky , Fetty Wap , Selena Gomez, and The Weeknd ; the Mars explorer Lujendra Ojha ; the nuclear scientist Leslie Dewan ; the digital security expert Yan Zhu ; the social entrepreneur Cornelia Röper ; Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai ; fashion entrepreneurs Ann Li and Chiara Ferragni ; as well as athletes like Lindsey Vonn , Andy Murray , Michael Phelps and Simone Biles .

criticism

The 30 Under 30 list has been the subject of multiple criticism, as it only takes young leaders of color and women into account below average. The Root found that 29 of the 30 journalists who were honored in the context of the first-time award for media representatives in 2011 had white skin, while blacks or Latinos were not considered. Elle South Africa identified a gender imbalance on the 2014 list and asked “ Where are the women? The following year, the demographic characteristics of the award winners continued to cause discussion: Poynter reported that the 2015 list of 18 women had the largest proportion of female winners since the list was founded.
