A scholarship enabled her to attend the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in Hertfordshire between the ages of 9 and 18 . This private educational institution combines the subjects of a general school with special training in performing arts at a young age. After the end of their schooling in 2010 she took a degree in Cultural History of Ancient (classical civilization) at Birkbeck College of the University of London on, but they gave up when her acting career developed.

Her debut in 2013 as a guest actress on the television series Casualty was followed by other guest appearances on series such as Youngers, Silent Witness and Mr Selfridge . She made her feature film debut in 2015 in the British indie horror film Scrawl. She also starred in the short film Blue Season and in the interactive film Lifesaver . In April 2014 she was selected to play the role of 'Rey' in the science fiction film Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its two sequels. The Force Awakens hit theaters worldwide in December 2015, with the sequel entitled Star Wars: The Last Jedi two years later. The screening start for the final episode of the trilogy ( Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ) was in December 2019. By assigning a leading role to a hitherto relatively unknown actress, director JJ Abrams proceeded as George Lucas did in 1976 with the cast of film roles for Star Wars .
