Lilly Saini Singh (born September 26, 1988 in Toronto ) is a Canadian YouTuber , vlogger, comedian, author and actress. Singh became known through her YouTube channel IISuperwomanII , which she opened in October 2010. Your most viewed video has received 31 million views. It now has over 14 million subscribers. In 2016 she was included in the Forbes ranking 30 under 30 in the Hollywood & Entertainment category. In 2017, she was ranked tenth on Forbes' top-earning YouTube stars list with $ 10.5 million in revenue in 2017. In 2017, she was named the Most Influential Personality in the entertainment category by Forbes . In 2015 she founded #girllove , a campaign against the bullying of girls.

In March 2019, NBC announced that Singh would host a new late night talk show for the network, A Little Late with Lilly Singh , which will replace Last Call with Carson Daly . Singh will also serve as executive producer for the series.

Private life

Singh's parents Malwinder and Sukhwinder Singh are originally from Punjab in India and emigrated to Canada, where Singh was born and grew up with her older sister Tina Singh in Scarborough. She wanted to be a rapper herself, but her parents pushed her to study psychology at Toronto York University. During this time, she claims to have suffered from depression, which she escaped through her YouTube videos. She claims to be unmarried and lives in Los Angeles, USA. In February 2019, Singh publicly came out as bisexual on social media.

In October 2010, Singh started a YouTube channel under the pseudonym "IISuperwomanII". She has stated that the name Superwoman was inspired by an idea from her childhood that made her believe she could do anything. The Punjabi culture is often portrayed in their videos, which also contain satirical impressions of everyday life and people's dearest complaints.

Lilly posted her first YouTube video in 2010 and only had 60 clicks. After graduating from York University with a bachelor's degree in psychology that same year, she should have continued her education with a master's degree, but she convinced her parents to take a break to deepen her YouTube career.

Her most popular video is What Clubbing is Actually like and her most popular series shows her fictional parents Paramjeet and Manjeet, both played by Singh himself, how they react to trendy and controversial videos. She also frequently works with celebrities including Sickick , Dwayne Johnson , Selena Gomez , Seth Rogen , James Franco , Kunal Nayyar , Noah Schnapp , Priyanka Chopra , Shay Mitchell , Amber Rose , Steve Aoki , Caleb McLaughlin , Nargis Fakhri , Hasan Minhaj, Phil McGraw , and Madhuri Dixit . Your channel currently has over 14 million subscribers and 3 billion clicks.

In July 2014 she released a song called #LEH in collaboration with her friend Kanwer Singh (author and rapper), who goes by the pseudonym "Humble the Poet". In April 2015, Singh released a song about her hometown Toronto, also in collaboration with Humble the Poet, titled #IVIVI (Roman numerals for 416, Toronto's area code).

That same year she recorded another song and music video called "The Clean Up Anthem". This was done in collaboration with the Canadian artist Sickick.

On August 8, 2016, Singh released a visual music piece on YouTube called "Voices". The piece contains five songs that represent the "voices in your head". The piece has a genre of pop / modern hip hop. The songs contain a mixture of signs of boasting, fear of loneliness, lust, stupidity and positive views that promote global peace.

She also appeared in Maroon 5's music video for "Girls Like You" in May 2018.

In 2014, her channel was ranked 39th in the New 100 Rockstars Top 100 Channels. In the same year she was nominated for a Shorty Award and a Streamy Award . In September 2015, People magazine added Singh to its annual "Ones to Watch" list. Lilly received her first MTV Fandom Award, was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards , and won her first Streamy Award that same year. In October 2016, she was ranked 8th on Forbes' 2015 Best YouTube Stars in the World, and featured in Fast Company Magazine as the 100 Most Creative People in Business. Variety magazine recognized her as one of the 10 comics to watch in 2016 and she was honored at the Just For Laughs Film Festival in Montreal . In July 2016, she won two Teen Choice Awards out of her three nominations. In January 2017, she won a People's Choice Award for Favorite YouTube Star. In September 2017, Singh won her fourth Streamy Award. In November 2017, Lilly Singh was also selected as an ambassador for Pantene Shampoo and was partnered with Calvin Klein .

philanthropy

In 2017 Lilly Singh was appointed UNICEF Ambassador to stand up for children's rights. She has led a campaign called GirlLove, calling on girls to end girl-to-girl hatred. In addition, she created a "GirlLove" Rafiki bracelet with the ME to WE brand and helped around a thousand girls to get an education (also in Kenya and India).

In July 2018, Lilly traveled to South Africa as a UNICEF ambassador to meet elementary school students who are fighting against bullying and violence in the classroom.
