Mary Elle Fanning (born April 9, 1998 in Conyers , Georgia ) is an American actress .

Private life

Elle Fanning is the second daughter of Heather Joy Fanning (nee Arrington) and Steve J. Fanning, her older sister is Dakota Fanning . She got her first name Mary from her father, the middle name Elle from her mother. Because of her sister's continued success at auditions, the mother moved with the siblings to Los Angeles .

Career

She started out with small roles in films and series such as B. CSI: Miami , Dr. House , Criminal Minds , Just In Case , Amy, and CSI: NY . After moving to Los Angeles, Elle also took part in auditions and got her first film roles. Films like Ich bin Sam (2001), Taken (2002), Kindergarten Daddy (2003) and Piggy Wilbur and Friends (2006) followed, in which she mostly played the younger version of her older sister Dakota.

In the miniseries The Vanished Room , which aired in the United States in December 2006, she played the role of Anna Miller. She was seen in films in Babel and in Déjà Vu - Race against Time . In 2008 she starred again in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on the side of Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt . In 2007 she got her first leading role as Phoebe Lichten in the film Phoebe in Wonderland by Daniel Barnz . In 2008 she wanted to play the siblings in My Sister's Life with her sister Dakota , but Dakota didn't want to shave her hair. In 2009, Fanning starred in the 3D fantasy film The Nutcracker , for which she received a nomination for Best Actress at the 2011 Young Artist Awards .

In 2010 she worked alongside Stephen Dorff as his daughter Cleo in Sofia Coppola's film Somewhere . 2011 came the film Super 8 from JJ Abrams , in which they as Alice Dainard played a starring role in the movie theaters. The film received mostly positive reviews and brought Fanning, among other things, a nomination at the Young Artist Awards 2012 for Best Actress and one for Best Young Actress for the Saturn Award . In 2014 she starred as Aurora in the fantasy film Maleficent - The Dark Fairy alongside Angelina Jolie .

In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

In 2019, Fanning was appointed to the competition jury at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival .
