A dog is being hunted in a supermarket owned by the Winn Dixie chain . Opal is watching this. When the dog is caught, she claims it is her dog. She spontaneously "baptizes" him Winn-Dixie when asked for the name of "her" dog. First she has to get her father, a preacher, to accept the dog, then the landlord. Opal makes new friends through the friendly nature of the dog. The dog reacts in a panic during a thunderstorm. A thunderstorm approaches a party: Winn-Dixie has disappeared ...
Reviews
“The parable about love for one's neighbor, freedom from prejudice and the high art of speaking out comes child-friendly and halfway funny. Even tricky issues like alcoholism are dealt with sensitively here. This is undoubtedly valuable from an educational point of view and nice to look at for children despite its length. Adults could get a slight headache from the do-gooders mallet. "
“The family film, located somewhere between fairy tales and reality, suffers from its undecided staging and the weaknesses of the script; thanks to his little leading actress, her animal friend and some convincing supporting characters, he still entertains in a humorous and thoughtful way. "
Awards
The film was nominated for the 2006 Young Artist Award in the category Best Family Feature Film - Comedy or Musical . AnnaSophia Robb was also nominated for the award.
