Son Lux is the stage name of the American singer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Lott (* 1979 in Denver , Colorado ).

Life

Lott began his training in piano and guitar as a child, and later other instruments were added. After working as an advertising composer, among other things, his debut album At War with Walls and Mazes was released on the anticon label in 2008 . In addition, he published a number of remixes by other artists such as Beirut or Castanets .

The Music Express has named his second album We Are Rising to the plate of August 2011. Also Plattentests.de , Spiegel Online and Allmusic -reviewed album largely positive.

Since 2012 Son Lux has been producing another album and an EP under the names s / s / s and Sisyphus together with two other musicians.

Lott composed the film music for the films The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2014) and Margos traces (2015) . The song Lost It to Trying was used in the 2015 commercials for the crossover models of the Nissan Qashqai , Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Juke .

style

Musically, the music press drew comparisons with Sufjan Stevens , Portishead , Battles , Grizzly Bear and Bon Iver . Spiegel Online also describes the style as “music that is electro and folk, that could be classical and jazz, but would rather be dramatic in the approximate” .
