Sisyphus is a music project that was started in 2012 by three American musicians.

Career

The rapper Serengeti, multi-instrumentalist Son Lux and singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens had each been active as solo artists for several years when they decided to start a joint music project called s / s / s in 2012 . The result of this collaboration was the EP Beak & Claw , released in the same year .

In the following year the project name was changed before the new single Calm it Down was released: Sufjan Stevens stated in an interview that the reason for this step was that the previous designation s / s / s was too reminiscent of the "Nazi Schutzstaffel" . The name Sisyphus contains the desired three S, in addition they connect their own anti-heroic and hopeless struggle with the mythological figure, but - "we are pushing that stone together" - together they would roll the stone upwards. The album of the same name, which contains a mixture of electronic music, hip-hop and rhythm and blues , was released in March 2014 by Asthmatic Kitty, the independent label founded by Sufjan Stevens among others .
