L'Altra Europa (German: The other Europe ), with full name L'Altra Europa con Tsipras ( The other Europe with Tsipras ) was a party alliance from the left spectrum in Italy , which was set up for the European elections in 2014 to Alexis Tsipras , to support the candidate of the European Left for the European Commission .

The other Europe was founded on March 5, 2014 in Rome by the Italian intellectuals Andrea Camilleri , Paolo Flores d'Arcais , Luciano Gallino, Marco Revelli, Barbara Spinelli and Guido Viale. The group consisted of individual citizens and the following alliances and parties:

• Sinistra Ecologia Libertà ( Left Ecology Freedom , SEL - Democratic Socialism ), led by Nichi Vendola ;
• Partito della Rifondazione Comunista ( Party of the Communist Restoration , PRC, a successor organization to the PCI , Eurocommunism ), led by Paolo Ferrero ;
• Verdi Grüne Vërc (Green Party from South Tyrol , List of Green Parties ), led by Brigitte Foppa and Giorgio Zanvettor .
• Various civil society movements and smaller parties:
  • Azione Civile (Civil Action) AC - led by Antonio Ingroia ;
  • Democrazia Atea ( Atheist Democracy , DA - Laicism ), led by Carla Corsetti ;
  • Indipendèntzia Repùbrica de Sardigna ( Independent Republic of Sardinia , IRS - Sardinian Separatism ), led by Gavino Sale ;
  • Partito Pirata Italiano ( Pirate Party , PP - Pirate Party );

The other Europe received 4.0% of the Italian vote and 3 seats in the European Parliament. In the course of drawing up the electoral lists for the EU election on May 26, 2019 , the Sinistra Italiana, together with the Rifondazione Comunista and the remains of L'Altra Europa con Tsipras, formed a joint list called La Sinistra . L'Altra Europa con Tsipras was thus dissolved. It reached 1.74% of the vote in Italy, and thus missed the 4% hurdle required to enter the EU Parliament .
