Alfred "Freddie" Thomas Highmore (born February 14, 1992 in London ) is a British actor , voice actor and screenwriter .

Life

His father is the film actor Edward Highmore , his brother Bertie Highmore (* 1995) also worked as a child actor. His mother, Sue Latimer is an acting agent who has, among others, the British actors Imelda Staunton and Daniel Radcliffe under contract.

As a young Arthur, Freddie Highmore starred in the television adaptation The Mists of Avalon , in the movie Two Brothers by director Jean-Jacques Annaud and in the summer comedy A Good Year by Ridley Scott alongside Russell Crowe .

He gained international fame alongside Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet with the role of Peter in When Dreams Learn to Fly ( Finding Neverland ). Highmore also starred with Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . In 2006 he received a Young Artist Award for his role . From 2013 to 2017 he played alongside Vera Farmiga one of the two central main characters in the A&E series Bates Motel , which in the broadest sense is a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's adaptation of Robert Bloch 's novel Psycho . Since 2017 he is in the hospital drama The Good Doctor autistic assistant physician Dr. Shaun Murphy.

Highmore is fluent in French and studied at the University of Cambridge with a double major in Spanish and Arabic .
