JK Simmons
Jonathan Kimble "J. K. “Simmons (born January 9, 1955 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American actor . On television, he played for several seasons in the Law & Order franchise by Dick Wolf , in the HBO prison series Oz - Hell Behind Bars and in the crime series The Closer . His big screen hits include independent films like Juno as well as superhero adaptations. For his role in Whiplash (2014) he received numerous awards, including the Oscar and the Golden Globe for best supporting actor.
Life
J. K. Simmons studied acting and stage singing at Ohio State University . His knowledge of German comes from this time, as he had to sing operas in German. Since then he has also been a fan of the local sports teams. He also trained as a film composer at the University of Montana , which awarded him an Achievement Award in April 2002 .
J. K. Simmons is equally at home in film and television. He has about in all parts of Sam Raimi Man Spider- - Trilogy participated. He also starred under Raimi's direction in For the Love of the Game and in The Gift - The Dark Gift . He has also stood in front of the camera several times with fellow actor Tobey Maguire , for example in God's work and the devil's contribution . Simmons played one of his most famous roles from 1997 to 2003 as Nazi Vern Schillinger on the HBO prison series Oz - Hell Behind Bars . From 2005 to 2012 he was part of the main cast of The Closer in 109 episodes . Since 2017 he can be seen in a double role in the Counterpart series .
Simmons is also in demand as a spokesperson for cartoons and animated films ( BoJack Horseman , Zoomania ), as well as for video games. In the third part of the Command & Conquer: Red Alert computer game series, Simmons plays the President of the United States of America in the real-life sequences . In Portal 2 by Valve , he took on the role of the insane multimillionaire Cave Johnson. All in all, his work comprises more than 190 productions.
Simmons received rave reviews for his supporting role as a sadistic bandleader in Damien Chazelle's music drama Whiplash from 2014, for which he received the Boston Society of Film Critics Award , New York Film Critics Circle Award , Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award , the Golden Globe Award , Satellite Award , BAFTA Award , Screen Actors Guild Award , Independent Spirit Award and finally an Oscar . Some critics have hailed his performance as the best of his career.
J. K. Simmons is married to Michelle Schumacher, with whom he has two children. He has a sister named Elizabeth and a brother named David who is a Christian singer.
