production
The show takes place in a humble docks resort on the Lake of the Ozarks , inspired by the Alhonna Resort and Marina, where series creator Dubuque worked as a docks helper while attending college in Missouri in the 1980s . Most of the locations are in Atlanta on Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier and not on Lake of the Ozarks because of the tax breaks offered by the state of Georgia . The film crew built a set in Georgia after digging deep into the property at Alhonna Resort. Some scenes were filmed in locations in Chicago . Few scenes from the pilot were filmed in the town of Lake Ozark , Missouri; this includes footage of the locally famous "Welcome To Lake Of the Ozarks" sign and the "Injun Joe Muffler Man" statue. Jason Bateman was originally supposed to be the only director for the first season, but planning conflicts prevented this, so he only directed the first two and last two episodes. The series was renewed on August 15, 2017 for a second season with 10 episodes.

reception
“'Ozark' keeps its viewers engaged with high narrative speed and the tried and tested ' Breaking Bad ' strategy of letting the main character create two more by solving one problem. At the same time, it impresses with its character drawing, which rejects stereotypes, and through the playful blending of thriller elements with more down-to-earth worlds. "
“As a provincial thriller as well as a story of a family ordeal, 'Ozark' stylishly balances the outside and the inside, the drive of murder and manslaughter and their reverberations in interpersonal relationships. Nonetheless, the Byrdes 'hasty move threatens to dissipate the series' greatest strength: Instead of the nasty joke of ' Fargo ' and the surreal hallucinations of ' Twin Peaks ', it initially smashes down with the dissection of a dead everyday work and family life, where indifference paralyzes, suddenly turns into hatred and every hope can only be that of a postponed death.
