Marc Shaiman
Marc Shaiman (born October 22, 1959 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American musical and film composer .
Live and act
Marc Shaiman began his film career on Saturday Night Live , where he was employed as a writer. His first big film as a music composer was Misery in 1990 .
He worked several times with actor and director Billy Crystal . He also composed the film music for several films by director Rob Reiner .
In 2002 he was responsible for the music of the Broadway musical Hairspray together with the author Thomas Meehan . Five years later he composed the score for the movie of the same name , in which he was also involved as executive producer.
In 2008 he wrote and directed the short musical Prop 8: The Musical . Well-known actors, such as B. Jack Black , John C. Reilly , Sarah Chalke or Neil Patrick Harris . The topic is the recognition of same-sex partnerships in the United States , in particular the referendum Proposition 8 in California .
Shaiman lives with his partner Scott Wittman , whom he has known since 1979. Together they wrote music and texts for the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , an adaptation of the children's book of the same name by Roald Dahl .

In his career to date, Marc Shaiman has received a total of seven awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers . He was also nominated for an Oscar seven times . a. 1994 for Sleepless in Seattle . In 1999 he and Trey Parker received the Best Music Award at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards . A year later he won the Online Film Critics Society Awards , again for his music for South Park: The Movie - Bigger, Longer, Unedited . In 2003 the Tony Award for Best Original Music followed . In 2019 he received the Saturn Award for Best Score for Mary Poppins' Return .
