Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 19, 1995 that the film was an attempt to replicate the success of the comedy Harry and Sally . He described the film as "wonderful" ("this is a wonderful film") and attested to some romantic scenes and funny gags.

“Lively relationship comedy that only really begins where the curtain normally falls. In favor of an effective staging, however, nuances are quickly pushed to the edge and all too random gags are strung together. "
