Julie Deborah Kavner (* 7. September 1950 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress . She is known for her role as Brenda Morgenstern in the television series Rhoda (1974-1978) and as the voice of Marge Simpson in the cartoon series The Simpsons (since 1989).

biography

Kavner was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Southern California. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School and studied theater arts at San Diego State University , where she passed with honors.

After the Rhoda series , she starred in several Woody Allen films : Radio Days (with Michael Tucker , Mia Farrow , and Dianne Wiest ); New York Stories (with Woody Allen); Alice (again with Farrow); Hannah and her sisters (with Michael Caine ), and Harry beside himself (with Richard Benjamin and Julia Louis-Dreyfus ).

On The Simpsons , Kavner is the voice of Marge Simpson, Patty Bouvier , Selma Bouvier , Jacqueline Bouvier and Gladys Bouvier. Marge speaks it an octave higher, Selma and Patty an octave lower and a bit smokier. In this context, she is one of the highest paid people in the US TV business with earnings of 400,000 US dollars per episode.

In the Lion King 1 1/2 (or also the Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata ) she spoke the mother of Timon.

In the film Click with Adam Sandler , she played the mother. In the multi-nominated film Time of Awakening , she starred alongside Robin Williams and Robert De Niro .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
