Sarah Louise Christine Chalke (born August 27, 1976 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian - American actress and voice actress of German descent. She became known with the television series Roseanne and Scrubs .

Life

Sarah Chalke grew up in Vancouver, the second of three daughters of her parents Angie and Doug Chalke. Her mother, whose entire family emigrated in 1952, is German , born in Peez , a district of Rostock . Chalke maintains contact with her German relatives and, as a child, attended the German school in her home town twice a week. She is therefore fluent in German and French , which went into her role in Scrubs . She has been a US citizen since 2008.

Chalke has been engaged to a lawyer since 2006. Chalke gave birth to a son on December 24, 2009, and a daughter followed in April 2016.

Acting career

Chalke began her acting career in the 1992 television film City Boy . The role of Becky Conner in the American sitcom Roseanne , which she took on in 1993 at the age of 16, replacing her predecessor Alicia Goranson , helped her first become known . After graduating from high school , she moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to facilitate filming.

When the series ended in 1997, she returned to Vancouver and appeared in various television productions in the years that followed. After the film Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy (1998), she got the lead role in the same year in the Canadian series of the same name, which earned her a nomination for the Gemini Award of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television in 2000 . She left the series after the second season and moved back to Los Angeles in September 2000. In December she was accepted for the role of Elliot Reid in the television series Scrubs . Filming began in March 2001.

During the rotation-free months was involved Chalke at several film and theater productions, most recently the Off-Broadway -Stück Modern Orthodox in April and May 2005. She also had the role of Dr. Stella Zinman in the American sitcom How I Met Your Mother , she had other recurring supporting roles for example in 2012 in Cougar Town and from 2017 to 2019 in Speechless , after she had the lead role in the short-lived sitcom How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) . Meanwhile, Chalke had also made a name for herself as spokespeople in cartoon series. Since 2013 she has been speaking to Beth Smith , daughter of one protagonist and mother of the other protagonist in Rick and Morty , next to Paradise PD or worse, it's always with Milo Murphy .

In the continuation of the sitcom Roseanne a good 20 years after the end, Goranson took over the role of Becky Connor again, but Chalke was also part of the cast with a new recurring supporting role. After the series was discontinued, she also played this role as a guest in the follow-up series The Conners .
