reception

Age rating

In Germany, the film was approved by the FSK without any age restriction. The reason for the release states: “The film mixes real and animated film elements in a colorful and loving design that is always child-friendly and episodic narration . Good and bad are easy to distinguish, and the clearly fictional story opens up to very young viewers. The positive basic mood, combined with a lot of humor and the lively singing and dance interludes, ensures that individual dramatic moments do not have a negative effect. "

Reviews and grossing results

The film has so far won over 78 percent of Rotten Tomatoes ' critics and received an average rating of 7.3 out of a possible 10 points.

David Ehrlich of IndieWire writes that Emily Blunt is spectacular, but a generation of children who grew up with the Minions will get bored of the film.

Christoph Petersen von Filmstarts also thinks that Blunt is simply phenomenal in the title role, and if she is insulted or annoyed and rolls her eyes in an incomparable way, one can only melt away. In the musical interludes, Blunt also makes a very convincing figure, but in these scenes she is even surpassed by her co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack lighter. Overall, however, the musical passages lacked energy and the songs lacked a certain catchy tune factor, continues Petersen: "two qualities that the 1964 original with A Spoonfull Of Sugar and Chim-Chim-Cheree still had in abundance."

The film critic Antje Wessels writes that despite a clear narrative focus, Mary Poppins' return primarily feels like a remake, which is especially peppered with those songs that flew from the first part due to a lack of creativity, and are otherwise Not very successful in this real-life cartoon fairy tale with some technical finesse. Wessels also recognizes a problem in the structure of the film: With “Dramaturgy and Message, the story differs only marginally from the one from part one. The tense political situation shortly before the First World War is giving way to the fear of the economic crisis, but otherwise Michael and Jane Banks, of all people, who should know better, make exactly the mistakes their parents made. "Wessels sums up the songs Despite a great Emily Blunt, the magical nanny said goodbye to the insignificance.

The film's worldwide revenue from theatrical screenings is approximately $ 349 million. So far, it has recorded 1,109,498 visitors in Germany.
