Chim Chim Cher-ee

Chim Chim Cher-ee is a song written by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman for the film Mary Poppins . It was released in 1964 and interpreted in the film by Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews . The German version was sung by Monika Dahlberg and Harry Wüstenhagen . The Sherman brothers won the Oscar in the category of best song in 1965 for their waltz- rhythm song . Robert B. and Richard M. Sherman also received the Oscar for Best Original Music. The inspiration for the song comes from the drawing by screenwriter Don DaGradi , which shows a chimney sweep who, according to tradition, brings happiness to people.

Cover versions

The song has been covered many times, including several jazz versions. One is by John Coltrane and was released on the 1965 album The John Coltrane Quartet Plays . Duke Ellington released a full album of songs from Mary Poppins, Duke Ellington Plays Mary Poppins . Even Louis Armstrong released the song on Disney Songs The Satchmo Way . German versions of the song are from 1965; the song was interpreted in the translation by Hans Bradtke by both Rex Gildo and Johanna von Koczian .
