Screen Actors Guild Award / Best Actress
The Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress (Original Name: Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role ) is one of the awards given annually in the United States by the Screen Actors Guild , a union of actors. It is aimed at actresses who have excelled in a leading role in a feature film . The category was launched in 1995. The winners will be determined in a secret ballot by the full members of the union.

Since it was first awarded, the Screen Actors Guild has awarded a total of 26 awards in the Best Leading Actress category to 24 different actresses. The first to win was Jodie Foster , who was honored for her role as Nell Kellty in Michael Apted's drama Nell in 1995. The last winner so far was Renée Zellweger , who was honored in 2020 for her role as Judy Garland in Rupert Goold's film drama Judy .
As of the 2020 award ceremony , the winner in this category did not agree with the future Oscar winner in seven cases . These were Jodie Foster 1995 for her role in Nell , Annette Bening 2000 for American Beauty , Renée Zellweger 2002 for Chicago , Julie Christie 2008 for At Her Side , Meryl Streep 2009 for Faith , Viola Davis 2012 for The Help and Glenn Close 2019 for Die Wife of the Nobel Prize Winner .
The oldest winner at the age of 71 in 2019 was the American Glenn Close ( The Nobel Prize Winner's Wife ); Oldest nominated actress at the age of 83 in 2018 the Briton Judi Dench ( Victoria & Abdul ). The youngest winner at the age of 22 in 2013 was American Jennifer Lawrence ( Silver Linings ); youngest actress nominated at the age of 16 2004 her compatriot Evan Rachel Wood ( thirteen ).
